With the explosion of the Internet, more and more people are looking at opportunities that they believe will help them develop an income stream to replace the job they lost or are afraid of losing.

Avoid Shiny Objects

Avoid the Shining Object Syndrome

This is probably the most important thing you will ever learn if you stick to your journey as an online marketer. You must avoid becoming the shiny object syndrome.

Don’t be an easy mark for the next awesome opportunity. It’s funny, but just today someone contacted me and tried to sell me on what sounded like a great opportunity.

It could be the next bitcoin phenomenon, or it could just be a great sales pitch. This will probably happen to you if it hasn’t already.

You may already be involved in a project that requires your undivided attention. If you took the time to pursue this new opportunity your focus would be reduced and so would your effectiveness.

The project you are working on now would fall to the wayside. This would mean starting from scratch on something new.

Don’t get me wrong, many great programs and products are being introduced every day.

If the product is not going to help you with what you are working on right now, then it’s just another distraction.

No Free Rides

There Are No Free Rides

There are no FREE rides when it comes to building an online business. It seems that people tend to think that building an online business should be easy and free to get started.

Neither of these things is true.

Think about it, you are building a business. That’s not to say that it will cost you the same amount it would to build a brick and mortar business, but there some costs that need to be considered if you are serious.

As you get started building your online business, you can on getting lots of offers for FREE reports, sign-ups, and eBooks in your inbox.

If you want to receive the information being offered, you will be expected to provide something in return Mainly, your contact information.

This will be at the very least an email address, possibly your first name and more.

Don’t Sit on the Sidelines

Don’t sit on the sidelines watching the action. One of the most common mistakes made by many beginning their journey is to procrastinate while gathering information.

The general thought behind this is: “I’m not ready. I don’t know enough to get started.

They are thinking let me grow more knowledge and then I will jump in.”

Believe it or not, the best way to learn is “on the job training”. Find a niche or program you feel will fit you and the time you have available.

When you got hired for your job, did you know everything there was to know about it or did you have to learn as you went?

No one starts in business without having to go through growing pains, so why not do it while you are making some money?

A good sound approach is to decide on a single product or program. Learn all you can about it.

If you are going to promote other people’s products, then purchase at least the first offer.

Study everything about it so you can share the knowledge with the people you are promoting it to.

I don’t mean that you give away all the goodies inside, but you can tell them about what you have learned and how it will help them.

Watch what the product owner is doing in their emails and the additional offers that come after the initial purchase.

Know what you are going to market before you try to market it to others. Make sure it is something that you feel is worth the money.

You don’t want to promote junk.
