Building a Marketers Mindset
What does mindset have to do with marketing?
Isn’t the desire to make money enough?
What is this mindset you speak of?
Why is Mindset Important?
It’s funny, but I talk to people all the time who want to build an online business, but don’t understand these simple questions. I was one of them, so I can speak from experience.
I come from an offline background where I was a marketer and a salesperson. I had to attract people to my business.
Then, I had to convince them that doing business with me was better than working with my competition or doing it on their own.
My wife and I were Realtors…
Now to say we had to have the right mindset was an understatement. I won’t get into the specifics, but imagine that, every time you met with a potential client you had to convince them you were ‘the one’ that they should do business with.
Yeah, we had to know in our mind that we were the best ones suited to help them and then we had to convey it to our prospect.
So, the mindset was an absolute must.
How Does This Pertain to Online Marketing?
You may wonder, how does this pertain to online marketing or, better put, making money online?
Excellent question…
When I first got the idea in my head to start a business online, I was like many others. I thought, build a website, offer products and the money would come.
There are so many marketers that use the idea of an easy button to get you to buy their products. Often times, selling you something that they had never tried or was old information that was no longer working.
Oh, so wrong!!!
It’s easy to get caught up in the easy button mindset. It took a little time to figure out that, if I was going to have any kind of success online, I was going to have to change the way I was thinking.
Don’t get me wrong, there are good people out there marketing good products that truly can help you build a business.
But, if they are telling you that it’s easy peasy, then that is a tell-tale sign that they are full of bologna.
Just walk away, no better yet run away, unsubscribe and move on.
Why Must You Connect to Succeed?
If you are going to succeed online or offline for that matter, you need to understand that you will need to do the hard work. You are going to have to make a real effort.
Ok, so that’s where mindset comes in.
Let me try to explain so it makes sense
In order to attract people and get them to make a purchase from you, there are some things that have to happen.
First, you have to connect with people. That means you have to share ‘You’ with them. Let them know who you are and what you are all about.
Sounds easy enough, right?
It can be, but for many, it’s not. How easy is it for you to strike up a conversation with someone you have never met? It hasn’t been for me and I’m a pretty outgoing person.
Well, that is basically what you are going to be doing, only you have to do it online where you can’t see the persons expressions or their body language.
Oh, so how then do I do that you might ask. Unfortunately, that is one of those things that you will have to figure out, but I’ll offer some ideas on how to in a future post.
Why Share Who You Are?
Now that you have started the conversation, you need to keep their attention.
But how?
That’s the 6 million dollar question, isn’t it?
Here it is in a nutshell, you have to give them something of value. I’m not talking about a free gift or anything like that. I’ll go into more detail on this in another post, but for now, just know that you will need to give them something of great value.
By doing this you begin to build a personal relationship with your visitors. As you move forward you will find that those that can relate to your message will find that they like what you have to say.
Now that you have created a friendship of sorts, you can start to share your ideas and other things.
You can begin to share helpful information that pertains to your niche.
You can begin to market.
I wonder if you ever ask these questions?
I know as a visitor to websites, they are questions that I think about.
And I am sure they are questions others ask too…
What makes you tick?
Who would you be if we were to meet?
Until then, I will leave you with one more question.
It is true that it is better to give than receive.
Summary:
