Sometimes when least expected, life goes sideways.

You have things planned out.

All the “I’s” have been dotted and “T’s” crossed, but…

then events happen that you have no control over.

When that happens, your thoughts get jumbled.

You may be thinking, how do I do damage control, or how do I fix this.

It’s how you react that sets the direction you will take.

How do you stay focused?

It’s easy to allow the event or events, distract you, anger you, basically, take over your focus then you have lost.

However, this is the worst thing that can happen.

One of the things I try to do when something unexpected happens is,

to stop and assess the situation rationally.

That’s not to say that it always worked, but these days it does.

I’ll give you an example.

Today as I type this post, I am sitting in an airport waiting.

I’m waiting on a flight that has now been delayed 3 times due to the weather.

By the time the plane takes off, if it does, I would have already been to my destination.

What can you do when a foot of snowfalls and the entire area is socked in.

Nothing, but as I look around and listen,

there are many that are frustrated and bitching.

Now, in years past I would have been one of them. Today, I sit here calmly…

knowing that there is nothing that can be done.

Patience is a virtue

I just need to be patient.

This is the key to why I can be writing this and stay focused on my commitment.

My commitment to writing every day.

To stay focused on my goals, even though I’m tired and,

would rather be somewhere else.  I’ll get there when the time is right.

Yes, patience is a virtue that so many have lost.

As the rest of the world is on fire, I am looking at things differently.

I have turned off all the negatives; they do not help a damn thing.

The only thing I can control is my response to any situation.

That’s all any of us can do.

I had a friend tell me once…

Don’t sweat the small stuff.

Well, when you look at the big picture, everything is small stuff.

So why sweat it?

Take control of your life by taking control of yourself.

You can’t control the weather, the way others think and act, or anything else for that matter.

Forget trying to be in control of those things and…

Just focus on controlling your response.

I’m focused on my commitment and my goals.

Nothing can prevent me from reaching them, except ME.
