Do you map out your product?
Before you start, do you have an outline of your product?
The first time I tried to create a product, I didn’t take the time to map it out.
Needless to say, it was a disaster. The product never got completed.
I had no defined outcome…
So I had nothing to follow or fall back on.
Mind Mapping for Success
I’m in week 12 of the Partnership 2 Success program. In this week’s training, I have learned the importance of mapping out the product that I am creating.
It makes great sense to me now…
I don’t want to have the same outcome as before, so I am mapping out the project.
Mind mapping is a way to build out the plans for what you are creating.
What a thought, right?
There are several different programs and apps you can use for this process.
FreeMind, XMind, MindMup to name a few that will run on a Mac or a PC. Each has a free version, which when you are just getting started is great.
You could also use pen and paper or a spreadsheet, but I figure in today’s world most people are looking for something a bit more techie.
Hey, I’m a techie guy so…
MindMup is the one I am working with. There’s a paid version, about $25.00 a year that allows you to share and collaborate with others if you have a team or partner.
Building the Map
There are a few things you need to know before you start.
It’s good to have an idea of what you want the product to provide to your audience.
At least a basic vision.
A starting point so to speak…
As you begin to map out your product, you are going to have aha moments of clarity. This is the fun part. What you initially envisioned will start to grow and blossom into something way more.
Our minds work in mysterious ways. I’d go into it, but that’s for another time and place.
Needless to say, as you start to put your plan to paper…
digital paper qualifies. You will begin to see your product come into form.
Using Your Product Map
Once you have your product mapped out, you can see what needs to be done.
Not only do you have an organized game plan, but you also have a basic outline for your product.
Think about it, each section will have your chapter and subchapter titles.
You’ll have the starting point for the eBook that will more than likely be the foundation of your product.
That is if you are producing a digital product. Even if you are building an app or plugin, you still know what will be in it and what needs to be created.
How cool is that?
The research is done, the map has been built, now it’s time to fill in the details and build out the product.
I don’t know about you, but this has taken a ton of pressure and worry off my shoulders.
With the mind map, I’ll be able to keep on track and bring it all together
There are other things that I’ll need to build before I jump in…
The schedule and launch date…
What will be outsourced and to whom…
There’s more, but that’s enough to think about for now.
I’ll cover that in another post.
Each new milestone is a new success. Building on those small successes will lead to the big one.
The launch of an awesome product. I can’t wait.
I hope you found this informative and helpful.
